Dear Future AP Biology Students,

Do not be scared is my first advice. Challenge yourself. I believe in high school you should try and take an AP class at least once to get you prepared for college. Mr. Landry is one the the most enthusiastic teachers you will ever have and will help you if you need it. If you have any intrest in the health field I would highly encourage it.
But do not get me wrong this class is hard. It will challenge you to study and to memorize things that you may not understand. The AP test is hard as well but if you get pass and get credits it's so worth it. I can personally get 8 credits if I get a 4 which is possible for anyone who takes this class. Thinking at it that is so much money that you can save and is rewarding to yourself knowing that you have college readiness in the course.
I hope this helps anyone who is having doubts.

What have I learned? 

I have learned so much in this class over the year. If you would have told me words like glycolosis or ecology I would have been so confused. This class has taught me how to study like a college student and the eagerness to learn. I am happy to say I am majoring in biology and this class has really reassured me in my descion. This class hasnt just taught me textbook knowledge it has also taught me study skills and the passion for biology that I may not have known I had.

LYSOSOME

Function:

Lysosomes are found in eukaryotic cells and are in charge of digestion in part of the cells and breaks down the enzymes in that food. But they also have a more importation job. The lysosome can break apart and kill off the cell that they are apart of.

 

Disease:

Pompe Disease is a disease the is from the lysosomes. The enzyme responsible for breaking down glycogen is missing or not functioning as needed. As a result the sugar can not be broken down and the result is muscle deficiency.

 

Fun Facts

• Lysosomes have also been referred to "suicide bags"
• Lysosomes can fuse with other organelles within the cytoplasm in order to recycle them
• verbatim translation is "digesting body" "ly" meaning digest and "some" meaning body

Why am I interested?

I am intrigued that it can just stimulate a response and kill off the entire cell. This intrigues me not because I want to kill off anything but because it has so much power and can pretty much control the entire cell because if it doesn't it wont exist anymore.

 

Sparta's Homecoming

 



Sparta is home to one of the best homecomings around. We take a full day out to celebrate all the achievements we have done so far. Also we recognize the people that made it on court and hear their speech. I had the honor to be on court this year and this was by far the best homecoming I have ever been apart of. When I think about it every year it got better. I brag to my friends at different schools about our homecoming and I tell the younger kids how much fun it is. We really are a community and we come together that whole day and it has been an honor to be apart of it for four years.

First Entry

Hello, My name is Alycia Wright.
First a few things about me: I am very interested in sports. I do cross country, competitive cheer, and track. I also like to read and spend time with friends. I am hoping to go to Michigan State University to do something in the medical field but not quite sure on what that is just yet. 

I am taking this course because I think it will help me in the future with taking college classes since it is an AP class. I also would probably want to major in biology if I am looking into pre-med so this class will give me a taste of what I will be in for. I also took two other science classes with Mr. Landry and thought they were great and am looking for more to take while in high school.

I hope to get a decent grade by the end of the class so colleges will see I am taking harder classes and challenging myself. I would also like to get at least a three of the final AP test to possibly get the credit through Michigan Sate and save money on a class I already know. But most importantly I hope I find out through this class that I like biology and it is a good choice for me to pursue in college.
